Mark and then his wife Mary Ann send a series of letters to lawyers in Belton, Texas, about some land that was part of the estate. These letters, which are part of a collection of letters that belonged the prominent nineteenth century Belton lawyer, A.M. Monteith, are in the Kelsey Collection and appear with the kind permission of the owners, Michael W. and Nancy Graff Kelsey. They add a little more knowledge about Mark and Mary Ann Kelton, who were married on September 20, 1871. We learn the following from these letters Mark Kelton, who apparently worked in the Recorder's Office in Lakeview, Oregon in 1889, died unexpectedly in late 1889 or early 1890. Mark writes his Belton, Texas, lawyer about land that was in Sarah's estate Mark and his wife, Mary Ann, were living apart, she in California and he in Oregon Mary Ann seeks to have her Belton lawyers to file a law suit over property After five years, she is disappointed to receive only 230 acres of the total plot of 1,153 and plans a trip to Texas if her health permits Each letter listed below has a link to the text of the letter and a link to a reproduction of the actual letter itself.
